e-SCM Participates in the Sustainability in Fashion Webinar - GFA

The Masterclass: Defining the terms and understanding sustainable branding practices

Sustainability in the fashion industry is an increasingly crucial topic, and e-SCM recently participated in a webinar on this theme, organized by Global Fashion Agenda and moderated by Faith Robinson. This series was organized in response to the Fashion Redressed series, produced by BBC StoryWorks.

The webinar brought together key experts to discuss the definition of terms and sustainable brand practices.

Speakers present:

· Baptiste Carriere-Pradal, co-founder and director of 2B Policy ,

· Lauren Bartley, Sustainability Manager at Ganni A/S ,

· Caroline Anziutti, our Business Developer for Northern Europe at e-SCM Solutions International.

Defining the Terms: Eliminating ambiguity for greater clarity

One of the first conclusions of the webinar was the importance of clearly defining sustainability terms in the fashion industry. It was highlighted that the fashion sector has been flooded with vague terms, which can lead to confusion. Brands can set goals, but achieving them is a completely different story. The current movement is shifting towards performance-oriented terminology, eliminating ambiguity for greater clarity.

Sustainability: Sharing Victories and Challenges

Another discussion highlighted the importance for brands to share their sustainability journey. Ganni , as a brand, was cited as an example for its energetic communication about its commitment to sustainability. However, it was also emphasized that it is equally important to show the difficulties encountered along the way, as the road is fraught with challenges.

Transparency: The Era of the Transparent Value Chain

Caroline Anziutti of e-SCM Solutions International emphasized the need for transparency across the value chain. She highlighted how technology plays a key role in helping brands achieve their sustainability goals. Furthermore, she explained how brands have traditionally operated manually, but the digitization of industry processes is a game-changer, making transparency easier to achieve.

Carbon Footprint: A New Obligation to Come

Fashion companies operating in Europe will need to be more transparent as they will soon be required to disclose their carbon footprint, a crucial element in the fight against climate change. Brands have a responsibility to share this information with their consumers, but it is equally important to explain what it actually means and how the brand is committed to reducing its environmental impact

Towards a more responsible fashion

This webinar highlighted the importance of clarifying terminology, sharing successes and challenges in sustainability, and promoting transparency in the fashion industry. The road to more responsible fashion is fraught with challenges, but discussions like these are essential for moving towards a more environmentally friendly future for the fashion world.
