Garbiketa eguna 2026: the Digital Cleanup Day of the e-SCM Team!

Summary

The Digital Cleanup Day 2026, organised by the Institute for Responsible Digital Technology and World Cleanup Day, invites employees to reduce the environmental impact of digital technology by deleting unnecessary data and recycling electronic equipment.

At e-SCM, this event is called Garbiketa Eguna and will take place from March 16 to 20, 2026. Each employee is mobilized to clean up their digital data (emails, files, cloud) and to recycle their old devices in a Smart'Box, available at the office.

The event will be launched on March 16 and will last all week; the results will be shared on March 26 during a friendly gathering.

How will this work at e-SCM?

To help you with your cleanup efforts, we'll be sharing our Digital Cleanup Day live. At e-SCM, we've named it “Garbiketa Eguna” (Garden Day), to honor our Basque roots! In the meantime, here's the schedule for the week of March 16-20!

This week, the entire team will be asked to do a major spring cleaning! Time will be dedicated to emptying, archiving, and deleting as much data as possible! This deletion will take place not only on email accounts but also on the cloud and desktop computers.

Furthermore, a SMART BOX is available at the entrance of the premises in partnership with Ecologic and Les Ateliers du Bocage to collect old smartphones, working or not, for recycling and refurbishment. Thanks to this initiative, we can recover phones

The week following our Digital Cleanup Day, we will share the results of this year's event. It will also be an opportunity to present awards to the best cleanersand the best digital ambassadors for responsible practices.

Limiting our environmental impact

The current state of the digital sector remains a cause for concern. In France, digital technology now accounts for approximately 4.4% of the national carbon footprint, representing nearly 29.5 million tons of CO₂ emitted annually. Globally, digital technology is responsible for roughly 3 to 4% of greenhouse gas emissions, a share comparable to that of civil aviation, and one that continues to grow with increasing usage, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.
