Digital and Traceability: the challenges of the Fashion & Luxury supply chain

How can digital meet the challenges of traceability and reducing the impact of products? Return to the round table of January 16, 2025

As part of the 3rd edition of the Neo Tech 4green event, on January 16, 2025, a round table was held dedicated to the impact of digital technology on traceability and the reduction of environmental effects. It brought together 4 experts:

Among them, Patrick Bourg , shared his vision and experience. Here are the key points of his intervention, moderated by Marc Bagur, which highlight the importance of digital tools in the sustainable transformation of the industry.

About Neo Tech 4green

Who are you ?

“I am Patrick BOURG, Director of Operations and founding partner of e-SCM Solutions. We are the publisher of a software solution dedicated to the Fashion & Luxury industry. The challenge is the management and traceability of supplies and outsourced production, from the ordering of raw materials to the delivery of finished products to the warehouse. »

Supply chain & traceability mapping

How are traceability issues embodied?

“The e-SCM solution allows Fashion and Luxury brands to optimize the management of their supply chain. It makes it possible to monitor and manage compliance, quality and delivery times in the warehouse in order to secure the marketing schedule.

The collection of end-to-end operational data also makes it possible to make regulatory compliance auditable, to monitor indicators for continuous improvement of operations and to transparently demonstrate to consumers compliance with the eco-responsible commitments made.

The solution makes it possible to present a summary of the supply chain map which highlights the choices made in accordance with:

the AGEC law (display of quantities and environmental characteristics of products)

ESG reporting : data on suppliers, transport carbon footprint.

certification and label documents relating in particular to the customs file

– the requirement for consumer transparency (QR Code and Digital Product Passport)

Rationalize textile production

Have you taken action to reduce the impact of your products?

All of our clients' teams, through e-SCM, have the necessary information to interact with suppliers, modulate the quantities to be produced according to real business needs, better control quality at each stage of the Supply Chain, optimize filling. containers and anticipate the reservation of transport for shipments.

The solution helps companies produce leanly to avoid any waste, rationalize material consumption, improve team productivity and reduce the carbon impact of transport.

Decision support tools & Traceability

How have digital tools revolutionized product traceability or are they helping to reduce the impact?

Digital tools facilitate the collection, sharing and processing of data for more collaborative coordination of different actors throughout the Supply Chain.

Centralized data management makes it possible to harmonize processes between all suppliers and facilitates unit monitoring of all production and at all stages of the Supply Chain.

Data control makes it possible to offer decision support tools for greater responsiveness. Reacting quickly and deciding with discernment makes it possible to avoid operational deviations which are costly in terms of operating margin and, ultimately, in terms of carbon footprint.

Without tools, handling all this information is almost impossible!

Digital Passport Product & Traceability

How have you integrated thinking related to sustainable development into your profession? What benefits have you observed?

We have been involved, since its launch, within the BALI Chair run by ESTIA. The Chair mobilizes several Fashion players to reflect on the necessary directions for a more sustainable Fashion industry and on technological solutions to combine economic, environmental and social benefits.

In this spirit, we also financed a thesis which led to the modeling of a Digital Product Passport model adapted to textile or shoe production. This approach, which took a long time, allowed us to prepare, well in advance, for the arrival of new French or European regulations such as the AGEC law.

By anticipating the challenges of tomorrow, by changing our approach, we have, in fact, prepared ourselves to be in compliance with new and future regulatory requirements.

Best practices & feedback

Do you have any good practices, feedback, or solutions around traceability and product eco-design that you would like to share?

To give an example, we have concretely measured among our customers who use the e-SCM solution (operational and product traceability), an average reduction of 25% in non-compliant receptions. As a reminder, a non-compliant product received in the warehouse was produced and transported for nothing since it cannot be sold!!!

Another interesting indicator is also the reduction in transport costs by 10 to 20% or inventory costs upon receipt in the warehouse by 30 to 50%.

This type of observation allows us to affirm that an operational traceability tool improves both the economic performance of the company and helps to reduce its environmental impact.
